New Delhi, Jan 17 (Agencies) The hearing of Delhi gang rape case was transferred to Fast Track Session Court on Thursday, one month after the brutal incident, where a young woman was raped on a moving bus on December 16, 2012. The five adult accused of the rape could face the death penalty if convicted. The case was moved to fast track court as the attack drew nationwide protests and discussions on violence against women in the country. The student died on December 29 after 13 days of the attack. In a hearing on Thursday, Magistrate Namrita Aggarwal sent the rape case to a fast-track court and set a hearing for Monday there. The case against one of the suspect in the case, who claims to be a juvenile is being handled separately. Meanwhile, the lawyers for the five have said police have physically harassed their clients to force them confess to the crime.

Bonafide mistakes of students while submitting entrance form online can be ignored, said the court, particularly if the students belonged to areas where proper computer and internet facilities were unavailable, and more so when they had secured a seat in the entrance exam. Justice G.S. Sistani, allowing a student from a village in Haryana to join the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Kurukshetra, has observed that bonafide mistake of the student cannot be penalised to the extent that the admission granted to him should be cancelled. The company has invited bids till August 6. Norway's Telenor, which has 67.25 percent shares in Uninor, is keen to buy the company. The move is being opposed by joint venture partner Unitech. "In view of the impending Supreme Court mandated cancellation of license on Sep 7, 2012, Uninor management has decided to conduct an auction of Uninor's business, including its assets, while the company is still a going concern," Uninor said in a statement. New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) The power crisis that hit northern India turned into a larger blackout a day later Tuesday to affect as many as 19 states not just in the north but also in the east and northeast, paralysing essential services such as rail and metro operations, besides causing major traffic snarls. New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) An massive power outage Tuesday afternoon crippled the Delhi Metro for close to two hours for the second time in two days, impacting tens of thousands of passengers in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida. Train services on all six lines resumed partially at 2.50 p.m. "Metro services started to resume in phases at 2.50 p.m. We were unable to operate any of the services from 1.05 p.m. to 2.50 p.m. after the Northern Grid collapsed. Metro services on all six lines were halted after another collapse of the Northern Grid. "As the Northern Grid failed, all train services have been stopped and entry to all stations has been stopped. The trains which are plying were immediately brought to the nearest stations for evacuating the passengers," a Delhi Metro official said. The immediate concern, after the grid collapsed at 1.05 p.m., was to evacuate passengers in trains running in the underground sections, the official said. "Nine trains were running underground. An apex court bench of Justice Altamas Kabir permitted the investigating agency to file its reply to a plea by Additional Solicitor General Hari Rawal, seeking time to file his response. The court also permitted senior counsel Mukul Rohtagi to file a rejoinder to the reply by the CBI. New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) Veteran Congress leader N.D. Tiwari is the biological father of Rohit Shekhar, the Delhi High Court said Friday after opening the DNA test report. Rohit Shekhar, 32, had in 2008 filed the suit claiming to be 87-year-old Tiwari's son. Justice Reva Khetrapal opened the report in her chamber and declared the result in an open court. "Result has been declared to the extent that defendant No.1 (N.D. Tiwari) is the biological father of plaintiff (Shekhar) and defendant No.2 (Ujjwala Sharma) is the biological mother of Shekhar," the judge said. Earlier in the day, the court dismissed Tiwari's plea to keep his DNA test report confidential. A division bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said the DNA report could be made public in the court, but no copies should be given to any of the parties in the case.
