Former BJP president Bangaru Laxman, who was caught on camera in 2001 whileaccepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in a fake defence deal hugely embarrassing the the NDA government, died at a hospital in Hyderabad on Saturday. NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expelled veteran MP and senior politician, lawyer Ram Jethmalani from the primary membership of party for six years, the matter as cited as "breach of discipline". In a letter to Jethmalani, BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar on Tuesday said the party's parliamentary board had taken a unanimous decision on Monday to expel him from membership of the party. "The central parliamentary board after considering all your replies, responses and letters was of the unanimous opinion that you have indulged in a breach of discipline. The parliamentary board, therefore, decided to expel you for a period of six years from the primary membership of the Party," the letter stated.

New Delhi, July 30 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party Monday said those appreciating Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi were becoming "victim of the worst kind of vote bank politics" and questioned the "silence" of the Congress over communal riots in Assam. New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Monday it would field its own candidate for the post of vice president and would not support the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) nominee. "It is natural that the BJP will itself fight the vice president election. We will discuss it with are allies in NDA (National Democratic Alliance) and decide," BJP's national spokesperson and general secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad said. New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) With Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launching a disguised attack on his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday said the party will announce its own prime ministerial candidate and that nobody has the right to give fatwa on secularism. Shillong, May 31 ( IANS) The nation-wide shutdown called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left Thursday to protest against the recent steep hike in petrol prices evoked mixed response in Congress-ruled Meghalaya.
